UnionsACT congratulates ACT Government for supporting the nuclear prohibition treaty and ICAN

UnionsACT has today congratulated the ACT Government and ACT Assembly for supporting the international treaty for the prohibition on nuclear weapons.

The treaty was passed by the UN in 2017 as a result of campaigning by ICAN, the Nobel Peace Prize winning organisation founded in Australia.

The following quotes are attributable to Alex White, secretary of UnionsACT:

“Unions in Canberra congratulate Minister Yvette Berry and the ACT Assembly for supporting the treaty to prohibit nuclear weapons.

“Unions have long supported the complete eradication of nuclear weapons, and UnionsACT is a proud partner of ICAN.

“It is now time for both major political parties at a Federal level to support the ban, and for the Federal Government to ratify the treaty.”
